Daihatsu manipulated the crash tests of 88,123 cars produced. This information was disclosed by the manufacturer bearing the D logo in an official statement on Friday (4/28/2023).

“We apologize for betraying the trust of our customers and shareholders and causing great inconvenience and concern,” Daihatsu said in a statement.

Crash test handling of 88,123 Daihatsu cars was carried out in Ryuo, Shiga Prefecture, western Japan. The total involved four cars sold in 11 countries outside Japan, including Thailand and Mexico. Among the cars involved are the Toyota Yaris Ativ, the Perodua Axia, the Toyota Agya and a model still under development.

Yaris Ativ is a Toyota Motor Corp brand car, like the umbrella of Daihatsu. This car is sold in Thailand and Mexico and its production starts in August 2022. In Indonesia, Yaris Ativ is better known as Toyota Vio.

So Daihatsu manipulated the Axia crash test. This is a car produced by a joint venture between Daihatsu and Perodua in Malaysia, production has been carried out since February 2023 in the neighboring country. Toyota furious over Daihatsu betrayal
