The inauguration of a new leader for the ASEAN region reaffirms Great Wall Motor’s desire to expand into the Indonesian automotive market in the near future.
The appointment of the head of Great Wall Motor (GWM) for the ASEAN region confirms the Chinese manufacturer’s willingness to target a larger share in Southeast Asia. And Indonesia is a market that GWM is keen to visit in the future.
Target of the Indonesian market
GWM has just appointed Clyde Cheng as President of GWM ASEAN. It recently moved from Russia, the largest GWM market in the world. His move is said to be based on “unprecedented strategic vision and expertise” and should satisfy GWM’s desire to expand its wings in the ASEAN region.

Clyde Cheng has just been appointed president of GWM ASEAN
“I am very honored and excited to join GWM ASEAN. This appointment comes at an exciting time as we strengthen our xEV (electric vehicle) position and expand our presence in the ASEAN region through our ambitious 6+3 ASEAN plan,” Cheng said in his official statement, as reported by Paultan.org .
“Our aim is to further establish our presence in three more countries, namely Singapore, Vietnam and Indonesia, in addition to our existing markets, namely Thailand, Laos, Malaysia, Cambodia, Brunei and the Philippines,” he continued. .

Then the fourth Chinese brand
Indeed, Indonesia has been a “target” GWM in recent years. Having seen several rumors about the presence of a manufacturer based in Baoding, this city located southwest of Beijing has been busy on social media.
GWM will be the fourth Chinese auto brand to be present in Indonesia after Wuling, DFSK and Chery. And in recent years, the third achievement can be considered quite successful in changing the image of fragile and easily damaged Chinese cars.
Wuling is probably the most popular Chinese brand in Indonesia at the moment
“Together with GWM’s talented team, we will leverage our commitment to innovation, quality and customer satisfaction to propel the brand to new heights and deliver exceptional products and experiences to our valued customers,” he added.
Besides GWM, several other brands rumored to enter the Indonesian auto market are BYD and Weltmeister Motor. The two manufacturers are attached to electric car-based products which are starting to receive more attention in the country.
