Mitsubishi and Nissan will reportedly collaborate to produce the Kei Car.
Autos.id – With the growing popularity of the small electric car or also known as the Kei Car, Mitsubishi and Nissan are said to be collaborating to produce this type of car.
According to Nikkei Asia, the two Japanese automakers had launched a similar product in 2011 through an NMKV joint venture. It’s just that at the time the car was using an internal combustion engine (ICE).
With the commitment to the electrification program, the two automakers are expanding the market with the presence of Mitsubishi eK X EV and Nissan Sakura. Production of the two cars is also reported to increase by 20 percent next year.
It was previously known that when orders for the two cars were opened in June, orders reached 35,000 units. Not only that, Mitsubishi and Nissan also account for 50% of the electric car market in Japan (April-August 2022 period).
According to the same source, the Nissan collaboration electric car is being sold for a starting price of 2,333,100 yen or Rp 246,000,000. Meanwhile, Mitsubishi electric cars are priced starting at 2,398,000 yen or around Rp. 253,000,000.
So when it comes to the design, the Mitsubishi eK X EV has similarities to the Xpander, only in a number of parts has it been perfected such as features, wheels and grille.
Spec-wise, the Mitsubishi eK X EV has Nissan Leaf development technology, which is said to be capable of producing 64PS and 95Nm of torque.
On the other hand, the Nissan Sakura has almost the same specifications, only there is a difference in terms of power which produces 47 kW and 195 Nm of torque.
