Problem with the airbag software, Kia Carens 2022 Recall!

Problems with problematic airbag software and passengers in distress in the car drew back the 2022 Kia Carens.

Autos.id – Bad news has come from one of South Korea’s auto brands, Kia. One of its products, the latest generation Carens, launched in 2022, has been recalled for the Indian market. Cars entering the Medium MPV class were forced to retire due to a problem with the airbag software that could endanger the driver’s safety.

The airbag control module or ACU module on the Kia Carens that has a faulty programming system can at any time harm the driver in the event of an accident.

In an official statement released by Kia India on Wednesday (5/10/2022), Kia said there was an error in the software system of the airbag control unit that could actually cause unwanted things in an accident. In this form, Kia India claims that there is a faulty programming system which forces Kia to act quickly to overcome it.

Kia India itself has stated that the company always performs rigorous component testing standards that comply with Kia Global standards. In handling this case, Kia itself stated that it would be careful in examining this software module considering that the ACU module is one of the important components that should save from the risk of serious injury or death of passengers in the event of an accident.

In this recall process, Kia India will update the software and update the programming system on the airbag control unit which is causing the problem. They also ensure that consumers will not be charged or free of charge in this take-back process and will do so immediately at the nearest Kia repair shop.

Kia itself will also contact owners of Carens 2022 whose cars are affected by this recall. It is not yet known how many of the 2022 Carens cars will be recalled. And it is not yet known whether other countries besides India such as Indonesia will also receive a recall due to this problem. In addition, the Kia Caren sold in Indonesia are also assembled from India

Presented at the GIIAS 2022 event, Kia Indonesia under the aegis of PT Kreta Indo Artha presents 2 choices of variants for Carens that are presented to Indonesian consumers, namely 6-seater and 7-seater variants priced at IDR 389 million for the 7-silker variant with 1,500 cc NA engine and 449 million IDR for the 6-silker variant with 1,400 cc Turbo engine.

For the cheaper variant with a 7-bristle configuration, you get a 1,500cc, 4-cylinder NA engine with Smartstream technology that produces 115PS of power and 144Nm of torque with a choice of IVT transmission. While the 6-seater variant with captain’s seat features a 1,400cc, 4-cylinder Turbo engine that produces 140PS of power and 242Nm of torque with a choice of dual clutch transmission.
