In fact, the latest generation of BMW X4 has been prepared, but it looks like it will be canceled and replaced by the Coupe iX4 electric SUV in 2026.
Autos.id – As is known, the BMW X4 is a coupe-shaped SUV or a crossover version of the X3. Just like the even version, the BMW X4 also caters to a market that favors the emotional level rather than the rational in choosing a car. But in the midst of BMW’s relentless entry into the electric car segment, the X4 will most likely never be carried forward.
The location of the BMW X4 will reportedly be replaced by the BMW iX4 electric SUV using the Neue Klasse platform base in 2026.
Replaced by BMW iX4
As reported by BMWBLOG and quoted by Motor1 on Sunday (18/9/2022), BMW has in fact prepared the latest generation of X4 with the body code G46. However, what happens is likely to fail and will be replaced by an electric car with a similar bodywork. Furthermore, BMWBLOG says that BMW will not receive sufficient demand to produce cars with conventional combustion engines in the coming years.
He also said from an in-house BMW that he would prepare the iX4 with a pure electric car setup as a replacement for the X4. The iX4 will soon go into production at the plant in Debrecen, Hungary, starting in November 2026. Thereafter, the iX4 will be based on the latest platform specific to the Neun Klasse electric car, which uses a round Gen6 battery.
One of the benefits of using this platform with a Gen6 battery is that it is said to be able to reduce the overall weight of the car by up to 20%. And not least, the production cost of this car can also be minimized. And CO2 emissions from the production process of this car are also said to have dropped by 60% compared to other cars. And the use of this Gen6 battery is also said to be 80% more durable and can be used for at least 10 years.
The current BMW X4 still on sale is the second generation with the body code G02, which has been in circulation since 2018. Only in Indonesia, the BMW X4 is equipped with 1 trim option, namely the xDrive30i M Sport which uses a 4 engine 2,000cc cylinders with a turbo that produces 252hp of power and 350Nm of torque that transmits its power to all wheels or XDrive with ZF 8-speed automatic transmission.
Currently the BMW X4 XDrive30i M Sport is officially sold by BMW Indonesia at a price of IDR 1.58 billion Off The Road or approximately IDR 1.7 billion on Jabodetabek On The Road. We’ll see if the BMW X4 is really discontinued in the future. Given the basis of this car, BMW, aka the X3, will still keep a conventional engine side-by-side with its electric car, which could use the name iX3.
